This pillow is a fun way to brighten up the room!

When I am looking to design a new quilt or project I consider a few things when choosing my fabric combinations.
Where is it going?
What is the purpose?
Is it for a special occasion or person?
After I consider these questions I begin with a focus print.  And then determine if it is going to be scrappy or not.
In my early years of quilting the most fun for me was choosing fabrics and making combinations work.  I learned early by  adding a splash of a little out of the ordinary print or color always gives character and someone once told me every quilt needs a little gold.
There are more tips for selecting fabric in the book.

  65. Your comment about cutting up fabric and then sewing it back together is the funniest thing about quilting; are we all crazy?? Even though I start with a focal fabric, I’m never certain of my choices. Quite often I go with whatever is shown on the pattern or using a ‘collection'. I’d love to be able to choose with confidence. Thanks for the chance to win this book; I’m itching to browse it’s pages.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I really like your tree pillow. I love looking at fabric and grouping them together and imagining my next project!

  72. What do I like about fabric? The possibilities. Truly. When I look at fabric, I may think -- i'd like to use this fabric in a quilt for my son, or a pillow for my daughter, or a purse for my DIL... Or I may think about the color of the fabric and what other fabrics go with it, or who would love a quilt in that color. Fabric inspires me, so when I ook at and touch it, I'm already thinking about what I'd want to make with it.

  169. To be honest, I didn't think I would like quilting when I first started out on my first project. I was pleasantly surprised that the fabrics came together to create such a beautiful quilt. It wasn't me really, it was a great pattern and a well put-together kit. I have begun to experiment with different color options, which has been a stretch to my imagination. But what I love most about fabric is the chance to try something new.
